What’s on at this year’s Newport Show

This year we will be hosting TV/Celebrity Chef, Rosemary Shrager and also local community chefs in our Festival of Food area.

Our main ring attraction for 2022 is the amazing Atkinson Action Horses which consists of a team of highly skilled horses and riders from the UK. Led by Ben Atkinson, and his team of Stunt/Trick riders, Actors, Writers and Combat Performers they promise to thrill, excite and astonish audiences with their high energy, breath taking, death defying stunt shows.

Other entertainment available on the day will be Ye Olde Redtail Falconry Display, Dog Agility display, Team M.A.D and back by popular demand, Merion Owen & The Quack Pack and Sheep Show .

Also available a dynamic variety of trade stands to visit and explore in agriculture, retail and local arts and crafts.  Ensuring you can shop until you drop!

If you’re a fan of horses, you’ll find more than enough to make you happy in the Equine section. With four rings, over 70 equine classes, and some of the county’s top competitors, you’re in for a real treat. There is an opportunity to stock up on equine essentials from the dedicated trade stands.

Some highlights to look out for are the Working Hunter competition in the Main Ring, Best Turned Out Pony classes and a real crowd puller is the Children’s Fancy Dress Competition.

On top of all the classes held at the show, we’re delighted to host the Shires class which the winner will go on to qualify for the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.

Lets not forget to visit our Canine section this will be the 23rd, all breeds open dog show, where we have in excess of 400 entries from best in show , best puppy in show and best veteran.  Check out the wonderful breeds from Chihuahua, English Setter and Bernese Mountain Dog to name but a few.

Celebrity Chef

Rosemary Shrager

Rosemary endeared herself to the nation when she took part in ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’ where she proved she could cook just about anything, anywhere.  Her latest programmes include The Big Family Cooking Showdown and the very successful The Real Marigold Hotel which aired on BBC to great acclaim and was nominated for, and won, a string of awards. Subsequently Rosemary has filmed several further series of The Real Marigold on Tour .visiting countries all around the world. Rosemary’s The Chopping Block, filmed at her cookery school in Tunbridge Wells aired for two series on on ITV and Rosemary also appeared on Culinary Genius for ITV.

Rosemary latest programmes have been incredibly fun – Netflix’s Best Leftovers Ever judging some crazy leftover combinations in USA. Cooking with the Stars where Rosemary starred as mentor for Jonny Vegas throughout the series for ITV in the Summer of 2021 and Fishing Scotland’s Lochs and Rivers for C5.

With a over a decade in broadcasting and teaching, Rosemary Shrager’s role in ITV1’s Ladette to Lady cemented her position as Britain’s best loved Chef and Cookery Teacher. Rosemary Shrager’s School for Cooks aired for two seasons on ITV1. Further afield Rosemary has filmed Ladette to Lady US and Australia.

Local Chefs

Stuart Collins

Staffordshire born Stuart has worked under some of the biggest names in the industry. Starting with a working-stageunder Gary Rhodes at City Rhodes, he worked with Michael Caines at Gidleigh Park (for over 4 years and then went onto Gordon Ramsay at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay for a year before being part of the brigade that helped set up Gordon’s New York restaurants, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and maze, both at The London NYC, where he became Gordon’s Head Chef at Maze.

He returned to the UK as Michael Caines’ Executive chef atthe Abode Hotel in Cheshire and then moved to Doha, Qatar to work on various restaurant concepts before returning back to the UK to open his own restaurant.

In 2017, Stuart and his wife Frances opened Docket No.33 in the market town of Whitchurch, Shropshire and in 2020 the restaurant was Michelin recommended and received a Michelin plate. In 2021, Stuart took part in the Great British Menu and won his regional heats to become the Central Region Champion.

James Sherwin

James Sherwin is the chef/owner of Wild Shropshire Restaurant in Whitchurch. It’s a modern British restaurant serving a multi course tasting menu of hyper local/hyper seasonal food, using foraged ingredients, local producers and local farmers.

Darren Morgan

Darren Morgan of Morgans country butchers in Waters Upton is a 4th generation master butcher. He grew up on the family farm and started working in the butchery 50 years ago.

He’ll be butchering a whole animal in front of the audience with James cooking various cuts at the same time.
