Introduced in 2025, the Country Sports Area is quickly becoming an established feature of the Newport Show, showcasing a wide range of rural sports. It plays an important role in promoting sustainability, habitat conservation, and responsible wildlife & game management.

Ellerdine Lakes Trout Fishery and Wychwood Tackle will be holding ‘Have a Go’ activities & Course/Fly Casting demonstrations throughout the day

Fly fishing is a specialised angling technique that uses lightweight artificial flies and a weighted line to catch fish, relying on skilful casting rather than the weight of the lure.

Coarse fishing is a type of angling practiced primarily in freshwater, targeting fish species that are not typically sought after for food, such as carp, roach, bream, perch, tench, and pike. Coarse fishing often involves using specific baits and techniques tailored to the various species targeted.

Three gundog scurries will be running at the show, the obstacle, the long retrieve and the multi pickup.
All of the scurries will have a prize awarded for first second and third place. The scurries are open to any recognised gun dog breed or recognised crosses of those breeds. Each run is £2.00 per go, people may enter non gundog breeds for fun, these runs are free of charge.
Each run is timed and the timer starts when the dog crosses the start line and stops when all the dummies and the dog returns back over the line. The run is void if the handler crosses the line or if the dog leaves the gun dog scurry arena.
Obstacle:
A dummy is placed at the end of the arena and the dog is required to jump over 3/4 straw bales, as the dog is returning with the first dummy, a second dummy is placed in the same place as the first which would be a blind retrieve.

Long retrieve:
This can be at a distance of anything over 50 yards, the first dummy is thrown (which is seen by the dog), when the dog is on its way back from retrieving this first dummy a second dummy is placed in the same spot. The timer is stopped when the second dummy and the dog are back over the line.
Multi pickup:
This can consist of any number of dummies placed out, with a mix of blind and marked retrieves. The timer stops when the dog and all dummies have been
successfully retrieved.

There will also be available Game Tasters and BASC on hand to discuss membership.

A COMPETITIVE, FUN AND SAFE FORM OF THE SKILLFUL SPORT OF CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING

Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting is becoming one of the most popular activities for just about anything that requires group entertainment!

Each player has a modified, real shotgun that fires an infrared beam. Individuals will shoot at modified clays fired from a clay launcher outdoors or at the targets as they light up indoors. Realistic sounds are produced by a speaker. When the gun is fired, participants will hear a gunshot and if successful, a clay breaking. As a result, it
provides an authentic experience, just without the kickback and dangers of live ammunition. Participants can keep track of their points on the scoreboard,
encouraging friendly competition. Laser clay shooting can be enjoyed by everyone.

Birds of Prey Displays are always a popular attraction.
Our displays will involve the flying of falcons to the lure, we use a variety of falcons for these displays, a favourite of most is the lanner falcon. These lovely falcons will
put in some incredible stoops to the lure and given the right weather conditions will perform near vertical stoops back to the falconer’s lure. There are also a range of Hawks and Owls, from the beautiful Barn Owl through to the impressive Eagle Owls. Static displays for people to come a see close up these magnificent creatures. All our static shows will be manned by experienced and knowledgeable falconers who will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.

Willow Station are a British Multi-instrumental Close Harmony Duet; specialising in
Bluegrass, Americana, Folk & Rockabilly. They will be providing the perfect spot to sit and
relax whilst overlooking the whole of the showground .
